The Security Onion

Created by an IT professional venturing into artificial intelligence, The Security Onion represents the idea around cybersecurity, like an onion, requires multiple protective layers working together—there’s never just one solution for impenetrable defense.

This ongoing project showcases the powerful collaboration between human creativity and AI capabilities. Through careful prompt engineering, iterative refinement, and strategic AI integration, we’ve created engaging educational experiences that make cybersecurity concepts accessible through interactive gameplay.

It's all about the layers!

The Security Onion started as a simple idea to see what I could learn whilst working with modern day A.I. and I very quickly discovered that the creativity barrier can be smashed into pieces. Now the hobby project is an eco system of engaging themed games aimed around Cyber Security.

Players create a free account which is the way to access the games as a SSO authentication layer .  Starting with Threat Command players engage each day answering IT related questions, earning in-game currency of Compute Cycles (CC).  Players use their CC to affect security layers in an Attackers vs Defenders game during a weekly event, leveraging in game tools and varied meta game elements.

Digital Duel is a recent gem of TSO’s eco system which is an asynchronous card battler allowing players to use their earned CC to build decks of themed cards and take turns battling other players.  Perhaps playing the Social Engineering card for penetrating damge, as long as the opponent has not nullified its effects with the SAAT Training card first.  Or flipping your defence value into attack points with the Zero Trust Layer, there are various ways to play.

Other titles in the eco system are there further the enjoyment and education all following the theme, a survival shooter, typing challenge and stratergy merge game.

With a Play to win approach you can earn Compute Cycles via game engagement.

As a fan of working with A.I. it is great to see how people can  quickly advance in their visions.

Everything about this platform is designed to be fun and engaging whilst giving players skills and knowledge that can be applied in the real world to build a good understanding of a proven approach for effectively defending against cyber threats.  This should be in schools and organisations.

Really enjoy playing Digital Duel, there needs to be a larger player base.
